Sodexo Hero Michael Miller of Saline - On Thursday June 12, Congressman Walberg honored Michael Miller of Saline for being named a “Hero of Everyday Life” by the Sodexo Foundation, the independent charitable arm of Sodexo, Inc. According to Sodexo’s website, Sodexo named eight employees as their 2008 “Heroes of Everyday Life,” an award now in its ninth year honoring employees who are making a difference in the fight against hunger. As part of the award, the Sodexo Foundation gives a $5,000 grant to the hunger-related organization of each honoree’s choice. According to information provided to Congressman Walberg’s office, each year since 2004, Michael has planted a 2,500 square foot garden and harvested more than 5,000 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables that he donates to Food Gatherers of Ann Arbor to help meet the nutritional needs of families and children who use this food bank. Each winner must spend at least two years or more completing at least 400 hours of community service, 200 hours of both personal development and physical fitness activities, and a four-night expedition or exploration. Gold Award winners receive a gold medal and recognition by the United State Congress. To earn her Gold Medal, Jesyka completed over 500 hours of public service by volunteering through the Girl Scouts of the USA. For personal development, she learned how to play the piano. To meet the physical fitness requirements, she improved her fitness through weightlifting and yoga. For exploration, she traveled to New York City and spent time in the huge city.
