Thank you for your interest in participating in my internship program. I am always interviewing candidates for internships in both my Washington, D.C. and Michigan offices. Internships are offered during the spring, fall and summer semesters.
Interns are an integral piece of our office. During their time in either my Michigan or Washington office, students will gain invaluable experience while developing their writing and communication skills. Students will work closely with my permanent staff on various legislative issues and constituent cases.
Due to budget constraints internships are unpaid and those students selected to work in the D.C. office are required to cover their own travel/living expenses.
Interns in my Washington, D.C. will participate in all areas of the office and will spend their time assisting the office staff with routine tasks such as opening and distributing constituent mail, assisting the front office, giving tours of the Capitol and running errands. The balance of their time will be spent assisting legislative staff with research, attending hearings and tracking legislative developments.
By assisting the Congressman’s district staff, interns have the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge about how a Congressional office provides constituent services and interacts with the community. Interns will also learn and assist in the processes of federal grants and special projects coordination through the District office.
Internships are open to all college students with preference being given to those from Michigan. Interns in any office can arrange to receive academic credit for their work.
Interested candidates should contact my intern coordinator Lindsay Ingels by email at lindsay.ingels@mail.house.gov and complete the application below.
